PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
MARRIAGE OUT OF THE FAITH
Not merely a violation of a code or custom, but a barrier to full companionship.
God’s presence or absence vitally affects all dimensions of family life.
0 magnify the Lord with me,. and let us exalt his name together (Psalm 34:3).
The partner who is a committed believer is in a very vulnerable position if the
other partner has a different outlook: Please tell young couples that there will
always be a void in their lives together without Christ. A good marriage must
have its foundation in Him in order to experience lasting love, peace, and joy.
Since my husband walked out on me, I have tried to rebuild my relationship with
God. I am now growing steadily in my walk with the Lord, but I am alone”
(from a letter to Dr. James Dobsón).
UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS
“Just as a hungry tick clamps on a dog in anticipation of a meal, so
each partner unites with the other in expectation of finding what his or her nature
demands. The frustrating dilemma, of course, is that in such a marriage there
are two ticks and no dog!” (Dr. Larry Crabb)
LACK OF COMMITMENT
Unless both partners are unconditionally committed to the permanence of their
marriage, it is likely to fail. The contrast is between, “How long do I
have to put up with this stuff?” vs. “We are married. We’ve
got to work this out.”
LACK OF REAL INTIMACY
Intimacy is not restricted to the sexual relation, but extends to all parts
of a• marriage relationship. And it is further extended when children come
into the picture.
